Rivers face an array of challenges and much has been written about the more obvious pressures; pollution, urbanization, the excessive extraction of water and the building of dams. These are certainly cause for concern on many specific waterways but it’s the sometimes subtle and far reaching impact of climate change that could ultimately pose the greatest obstacle to protecting our rivers.

El Alcalde Peñalosa sabe muy bien que la única manera de proteger, conservar la conectividad ambiental entre el oriente y el occidente, preservar las áreas ambientalmente sensibles y blindar la reserva Van der Hammen de los urbanizadores piratas y las invasiones, es dándole valor a la tierra a través del cambio de uso y la dotación de infraestructura urbana. Es decir, de urbanizar.

Son pocos humedales y cuerpos de agua donde la gente no ha construido. La administración ofrece poca evidencia, cuando se trata de proteger y conservar los recursos naturales y ambientales de la ciudad.
