The California think-tank Pacific Institute released a report—Impacts of California’s Drought: Hydroelectric Generation 2015 Update—earlier this month that contains significant false and misleading information that could negatively impact California rivers and delay the transition away from dirty energy.

It’s November 2015 and I’m walking along the streets of Old Town Cartagena, Colombia, just a couple blocks from the Caribbean Sea. It’s supposed to be the rainy season here where it rains almost every day, but it hasn’t rained for two months. Still, there’s a small amount of water running in the gutters in many of these Cartagena streets. I keep looking around to see where the water is coming from – people washing cars? Vendors washing off vegetables? Where is it coming from? It’s in almost every gutter on every street.

En el siglo XIX Geo Von Lengerke un joven aristócrata alemán llega al Estado Soberano de Santander en un azaroso viaje como refugiado. Se encuentra con una tierra devastada por sucesivas guerras civiles, casi que su suelo rojizo es la sangre derramada. Montañas imposibles, precipicios de miedo. Se enamora del paisaje, de las lejanías y sus soledades, de la selva, del sonido aterrador de Rios impetuosos. Ah, y de su Constitución (1857) que adoptaba como hijo a quien pisara su tierra. Los caminos, su obsesión, y fue como soñar entre las manos los cabellos desatados de una mujer sin encontrarla.

Es mucho lo que debo agradecerle a mis amigos por informarme acerca de desastres ecológicos y en pocas ocasiones de la manera como se recuperan cuencas, ríos y humedales, manglares y lagunas.
